The internet science tells me one can only have so many social connections. I went through my online friends list and deleted connections to people whose names I didn’t recognize. Some names were greyed out, I assume they aren’t using the application to socialize anymore. Some people have died, they won’t be posting about their next big adventure. Some people I haven’t sent a message to or poked since accepting their friend request.
I’m 58 friends closer to deleting my account all together. I know I can live a full life without broadcasting it online. I’ve done it before. I know I can maintain great relationships with people that I love dearly and/or infrequently. For now I appreciate clicking on a profile and viewing the highlight reel: vacations taken to old world civilisations, wedding celebrations, decadent meals enjoyed, milestones broadcasted and rants articulated.
